Looks like I jumped the gun on the whole passport thing - Prof. J will certainly be going to Vienna, but it's "unlikely" that I will.

I feel bad that I got everyone all excited. Although some were leaning a little towards jealous, so I suppose there's your silver lining.

And really, my enjoyment of the trip would have been tarnished by feeling like I had to "network" the whole time, which I'm really bad at. And seeing how out of touch the research world is with the real world always raises my hackles a bit, although this conference tends to be a little better than most as far as that goes.

And now I don't have to worry about learing... Austrian, I guess. That's what they speak there, right?

Europe will be more fun in the summer with a new wife, anyway.
